Job description:

This position is intended to coordinate a Long Island wide volunteer corps to help maintain shellfish nursery sites in support of the LI Shellfish Restoration Program. Responsible for identifying, training and coordinating this volunteer corps in towns all over Suffolk and Nassau. Generally provide outreach and education services to the public relating to the LISRP at events as needed. Aid in capturing photo, video, and other digital media at field sites, public events, and fundraisers. Aid in the design and lead dissemination of Marine Program newsletters, blog postings, and social media posts in support of the LISRP and other related programs


REQUIRED Appropriate qualifications:

» Bachelor's Degree or equivalent education (Associates plus 1 year transferrable program/functional practice).
» practice with working with the public.
» capability to understand and carry out educational program tasks and objectives
» capability to work outdoors performing various types of marine activities
» capability to work independently and as part of a team
» capability to understand and implement written and oral instructions
» capability to meet travel requirements connected with this position.
» capability to lgain marine science and natural science subject matter
» capability to meet acceptable background check standards, if required.
» capability to work flexible hours which may include evenings and/or weekends, as appropriate.
» capability to pass Motor Vehicle Screen
» capability to lift 20-50 lbs


PREFERRED Appropriate qualifications:

Specify preferred specialized education, field and/or certifications.
» expertise of shellfish culture methods
» Desire to work with the public
» expertise of basic marine biology
» Biology or education background
» expertise of social media tools and programs
» capability to use Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop
» Basic expertise of camera equipment. Basic web design expertise.

» Present existing educational material to the public.
» Interact with program participants and assist in educational programs as needed to support other habitat restoration or shellfish related programming.
» Assist in presenting program information to the public via mass media.
» Lead recruitment, training and coordination of volunteers necessary to assist with the LI
Shellfish Restoration Program.

Administrative Job responsibilities:

Direction - 5%

» Provide input to program leaders to assist in planning the delivery of established educational program goals.
» Assist in developing mass media communication strategies.
» Assist in providing input to planning of implementation efforts.

Management - 5%
» Utilize appropriate policies and procedures to resolve operational conflicts.
» Assist with volunteer management, including recruitment of volunteers.
» Assist in implementation of communication strategies.
» May give guidance to volunteers and staff.
» Provide non-complex administrative tasks in guiding the implementation of program budgets.

Coordination/Operation - 80%

» Coordinate volunteer activities with LI Shellfish Restoration Program Manager and Field Technicians
» Assist in compiling data relative to volunteer registration and communication.
» Assist in creating and distributing marketing and educational materials under the guidance of Senior
Resource Educator/Marine Program Outreach Manager.
» Help recruit participants for shellfish, habitat and related fundraising events.
» Help organize and maintain communication materials.
» Assist manager in development of new print and digital media material.
» Assist Multi-Media Production Coordinator in documenting footage for On the Water and In the Field news magazine show.
» Assist in taking photo and video footage at events and field work sites.
» Assist in distribution of promotional and educational materials.
» Perform basic administrative tasks to support the development of educational programming.
» Maintaining spreadsheets, collection of data, and media content.

Professional Improvement and Other tasks as Assigned - 5%
» In cooperation with manager and/or Executive Director, jointly develop and pursue a professional development plan as a means to increase competencies relative to position accountabilities and to address changes in programming and association priorities.
» Collaborate in activities that are in general support of Cornell Cooperative Extension including but not limited to attendance at staff meetings, timely reporting of expenses, working with other staff, general marketing of Extension programs and other tasks as assigned.

» Be familiar and strive to follow any applicable federal, state, local regulations, association health and safety policy/procedure/requirement and standard.

This is a non-exempt, full-time position, 40 hours per week.
